Waiting….

Chalet Boy in waiting

The biggest personal drawback in the current recession, apart from the obvious one of being away from Sue, my wife, is the hours just spent waiting In order to balance the books it is necessary for me to work in the months between seasons in England and all I seem to do is wait!I wait for the sun to come up so I can go to work, I wait all day at work for it to finish, and I wait all evening so I can go to bed to start the next day in  waiting. At the weekends I travel to see our children and grandchildren from whatever part of the country I am building Tesco’s in. This of course involves a lot of waiting; on the motorway, in the service area, at the traffic lights, especially the ones 200 yards from my son’s house that are permanently red. Why is that when traffic lights are set 60% in your favour you still seem to spend 98% of the time sat looking at them? Now it is nearly December and the waiting is becoming unbearable. Everyone at home is Bozel is waiting for the snow to come, waiting for the lifts to open, waiting for the guests to arrive and waiting to start skiing again. As for me I am just waiting to go home! And no doubt I will be quizzed as to why I have put on so much weight.

The return of summer….and me!

Just returned from a visit back to the UK, had a lovely time visiting family and friends, it was my birthday, my son’s birthday and also my grandson was christened. Had an incredibly stressful journey through Gatwick airport on th way back and beginning to think I will always drive in future, but very glad to get back to Bozel and Chalet Coquelicot and to find that we are still having beautiful weather here!

The weather for the start of the season is looking to be dry, cold, sunny in the mountains with a grey period in the valley’s. It will be warmer in the south facing, middle-mountain slopes.

Tesco’s

So, during the summer, unfortunately the other half of the partnership (The Chalet Boy himself!) has to work in the UK whilst we build up the summer trade in the chalet.

This work is building Tesco’s throughout the country, good news to some bad to others (Sainsbury’s springs to mind)

Well he has sent a picture of the current one he is growing in Welshpool

I think he is competing with the Skicourchevel Garden myself.

The Skicourchevel Garden

Peas and Beans

A bit like the Blue Peter Garden of your childhood but without Peter Purves (or presenter of your time) and no Tortoise!

I have obtained a small “allotment” in the village to keep me occupied throughout the summer and if successful guests will be able to eat the fruits of my labour during the winter!

There will be weekly updates with pictures ….so as they say watch this space!

Hello world!

4 years ago we took the decision to sell up in England and start a new life and semi retirement in the French Alps and start a ski holiday business.

That was just before the collapse of the world as we knew it, global recession the worst since the 1920′s the crash of the £ and the lack of confidence in buying property in England.

So here we are 4 years later, still can’t sell the house in the UK, having to work in both England and France but the holiday business is thriving and we are happier than we have been in years.

Not quite how we envisaged life would be!

This is a blog about life here in rural France day by day and how the other half  lives!
